Global Warming Case Study

'Is climate change real or a figment of our imagination?' 'What is the evidence that our planet is warming?' This case study examines one aspect of the science of meteorology: namely, the measurement of day-to-day local air temperature, the way in which temperature data is compiled and the way it is presented in order for inferences to be drawn about long term trends in climate. The case study was written to strengthen students' skills in graphical presentation and interpretation particularly within years 10-12 of the NSW school curriculum.

The Case Study is organised in three parts (accessed by clicking on the following underlined headings):

  1. Case Study document -  "Global warming - the forest from the trees" (3 Mb pdf file).
  2. Appendices document (3 Mb pdf file).
  3. Source Data - several downloadable Excel (R) spreadsheet files.

For teachers in particular, there is also a supporting document giving guidance as to how the Case Study  is linked to the NSW Curriculum : "Teachers' Guide to the Global Waming Case Study"
